What Are Affiliates?
There are millions of affiliates online, they span the world from the United States of America, to Australia, to India, to Brazil, to every corner of the world. They are parents, students, workers, companies, celebrities, marketers, authors, you name it. And they're all doing one thing, trying to get their piece of the online marketing gold rush.
What is an online affiliate?
Online affiliates take many forms, they can be single people, groups, companies, businesses. Generally they all share the one goal, working with a business to help develop, advertise and sell their products or services. In the online world this is a booming business, and has been for many years (since the early 90s). The internet allows someone from China to promote a product to someone from Alaska. If an online affiliate manages to successfully promote a product to a buyer, they get a commission for their services. This could have cash, discounted services, links, free products etc.
To summarize online affiliates, they are people paid to bring a buyer and a product together. The great thing for affiliates is that it can be a very rewarding business. They bring buyers and sellers together from around the world, and can make a lot of money by doing so.
What motivates online affiliates?
One single word, money. There's no beating around the bush, online marketing is a money game. I can not think of a single affiliate I have met who is in online marketing just for kicks, it's all about the cash. Cash is what drives people into Affiliate Marketing, and its what motivates them the whole way. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it does mean that it can be a very cut-throat industry (just like any marketing industry). A lot of affiliates are plunged into the industry by promises of millions (which is capable) but quite often they are just the victims of good marketing and false promises.
What demotivates affiliates?
De motivation is unfortunately a huge factor in Affiliate Marketing. It mostly strikes the newer players, who have been lead into the industry by promises of fast money with little effort. Once they pay thousands of dollars for their guides, they find out that they will need to put in hard hours every day to get started. And it could take months until they see good profits. It only takes one sale to get motivated, but the time between starting out and getting that first sale is a critical time for affiliates. This is where the highest amount of new affiliates will 'quit and go home'.

Why do people become affiliates?
The majority of the Affiliate Marketing industry is just regular people who want more money, and are sick of working their day jobs. They are usually short on cash or want to work from home, they do not want to be employers or desk workers and want to control their own lifestyles.
Other affiliates are wealthy business people who want to get into the huge online marketing industry, they start off with a lot of capital and hire consultants and employees to do the marketing. But this is the minority, most online affiliates are just 'regular Joes' who wanted something better.

Is there anything bad about being an online affiliate?
While there is a potential to become a millionaire online and make a massive income from home, the major problem with Affiliate Marketing is that it's not a reputable industry (or 'career'). At the dinner table everyone will be speaking about their roles, "I'm a plumber" "I'm an executive", "I'm a journalist", the affiliate will usually get very confused and quizzical looks when they say "I 'm an affiliate marketer'. Despite it being a huge billion dollar industry, many people have no idea what it is and will simply assume the affiliate sets on a computer all day spamming e-mails.

There can also be some Gray ethical boundaries for affiliates. Sometimes in order to survive and make a profit, they need to manipulate and 'squeeze' their potential buyers to make a sale. This however is no different from any form of salesmanship or marketing, and it's been around for thousands of years.
How do I become an affiliate?
The industry that creates online affiliates is massive, and there are endless guides and tutorials to get anyone started. By far the best network to begin with is 'ClickBank' and most new affiliates will begin their journey here, advertising digital eBooks and software.
